A Good Thing

As we begin to move into this holiday season, evidently the cable company dosen’t have the same definition of generosity I had hoped they might. So, Tuesday night we found our selves without any TV. Not really all that terrible if you ask me, however, it was election night and it was a bit of a bummer. But Wednesday night after a whole day of no TV and lots of pouting from my family, it was time for bed. Mike was gone leading worship and Moriah fell asleep quickly which left Lar and me to entertain our selves for a bit. Can I tell you what a sweet time it was? How blessed I was to share the evening with my 8yr old listening to her thoughts, dreams and imaginations! It was such a precious time. Sadly it was the first time in too long that I had really taken time to be with just her. This last year has proved to be one hurdle after another and the truth is I have become overwhelmed and lazy. Sometimes when I get in the routine of running from one stress to another, for what ever reason, it becomes a habit of no good purpose, even when there is nothing to run to. I had just stayed in the rhythm of running!

But Wednesday night, the house was quiet. No TV, no phone, no Internet, no distractions, nothing but some great conversation between a beautiful little girl and her mom. Something my heart has longed for and hers has too, I’m sure. After she went to sleep I thanked God so much for allowing the cable to be disconnected this evening and instead being able to make a real connection with my daughter. I felt the Lord remind me of two verses perfect for this moment.

Proverbs 34:8-10 says this: Oh taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who trusts in Him! Oh fear the Lord, you His saints! There is no want to those who fear Him. The young lions lack and suffer hunger; but those who see the Lord shall lack no good thing.

And Matthew 7:9-11 says this: Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!


Jesus, may I always have eyes to see the good things you give me!
